There are varying opinions regarding plastic molds and rubber molds ability to duplicate a texture consistently though. There is no question that a plastic mould design will do a better job if you want to duplicate a stone that offers a very high or deep texture. The Situation Silgan is the largest supplier of metal containers for food products in North America and a leading supplier of plastic containers for personal care products. In addition, the company is a leading worldwide supplier of metal, composite and plastic vacuum closures for food and beverage products. With more than 22 production plants, Silgan Plastics is one of the top 10 blow molders in North America, providing stock and custom packaging for many of the top consumer goods manufacturersinjection mold.
Silgan Plastic’s Toronto-based manufacturing plant is home to three types of molding systems; injection molding, injection blow molding and injection stretch blow moldinginjection molding . The plant produces a variety of plastic containers, lids and caps, many using PET preform molds with 72 individual cavities. Because Silgan runs a lot of PET and Pharmaceutical products, the company has developed a preventive maintenance program that meets customers’ product quality needsplastic mold.
The Problem The company uses a software program that generates a work order based upon cycles for each mold. The cleaning cycles are set-up with each customer to ensure that their molds are well maintained and in good working conditioninjection molder. This effort has become a standard for all Silgan molds and customers’ molds. With the 72-cavity molds, products are made in 10 second cycles. After every 15,000 cycles, the maintenance crew cleaned the hot molds by hand in the presses using chemical and citrus cleaners, degreasers, wire brushes, drills and pipe cleaners. Given the large number of cavities, each mold would take between 2-3 hours to clean by hand. After every 60,000 cycles, the molds were removed from the presses and given a more thorough cleaning . Despite the amount of time spent maintaining the molds, it was difficult to get them completely clean.
“When you clean a 72-cavity mold by hand, not only is it time consuming, it is difficult to get behind every slide and neck ring,” said Joe Pond injection molded, Setup Supervisor for Silgan Plastics. “In addition, the coatings and plastics that we use tend to get on other parts of the equipment, which also adds to the challenge injection moulding.”

Q.: How much time do you need to quote for Injection Mold?
A.: Unless the Injection Molded Products has a very specific construction usually a quotation for a Plastic Mold is send the next day after we receive enquiry with all the necessary details about the Plastic Products or Plastic Mould.
Q.: I would like to get a quotation but the Plastic Parts are not yet protected by patent. Can you guaranty that my idea will be sufficiently protected if I send it to you for Plastic Mold Design and Injection Molded?
A.: If you feel uncomfortable about protection of your idea, we can sign a non disclosure agreement before you send us any data about Plastic Mold and Injection Moulded Products. Customers who do not have their own version of such agreement can download a copy from here.
Q.: What do you need to make a quotation for Plastic Mould Design, Mold Making and Injection Molding?
A.: To make quotation Injection Mold Design, Injection Moulding and Injection Molded Parts Manufacturer which will be adequate and sufficiently competitive, we need 3 things: 1. Molded Plastic Product drawing or 3D model data file or Injection Moulding Plastic product sample. If none of these are available, we need at least an ordinary sketch with the most critical dimensions of the Injection Moulded Parts on it. 2. Kind of plastic resin for Injection Molded Part you are going to use for Injection Molded Parts Manufacturers or an idea of the durability of the Injection Molded Parts ( what the Injection Moulded product is or does ). 3. Estimated quantity of the Plastic Moulding Injection product needed in a period of time ( i.e. one month ) and the idea of how many Plastic Injection Moulding products in total you are going to make ( estimated total sales ).
Q.: How long does it take to build an Injection Mould?
A.: It varies a little depending on product size and complexity of its shape, but generally in case of Vulcanmold a middle size Plastic Moulds are built in 45 days lead time.
Q.: I would like to have my Three Plate Mould built faster than you quoted. Is it possible ?
A.: Vulcanmold's Plastic Injection Molding Process bulding lead time does not belog to the lengthy ones. On special request from clients and depending on our work load it is some times possible to make Injection Plastic Mould faster though the advancement cannot be big, just a few days.
Q.: Is it possible without a visit in your company to know whether my Injection Moulding is being built on schedule ?

Mold Price/Payment Conditions
Q.: Why Plastic Molds are so expensive?
A.: Majority of Injection Molds cost are materials and machining costs. What follows is that the product structure, materials used, number of cavities, and Injection Mould Design size influence the price the most. The cost can start from a few thousand to more than 100 thousand USD. Trying to say whether Moulding Process is expensive or not, is possible only knowing all of those mentioned, how they were taken into the quotation. For this reason Vulcanmold provides a detailed calculation of all the costs on quoting.
Q.: I got almost 20% more competitive quotation from another China Injection Molding Manufacturer. What is the reason for that ?
A.: There are always 3 factors that have to be balanced and are reflected in every quotation: Mold Design quality, delivery time and price. Quotations given by Vulcanmold have the 3 things well harmonized. The reason that you got a more competitive quotation for the same product is lying somewhere in that harmony.
Q.: What kind of payment conditions do you accept ?
A.: Usually we accept standard payment conditions - that is: 30% of down payment, 60% on Injection Molder trials and 10% on Plastic Mould delivery. The conditions may be however adjusted, particularly in case of bigger contracts. The preferable forms of payment are wire transfers and letters of credit. Very often we use a combination of those.
Q.: Is is possible to build Plastic Injection Moulds for a price cheaper than I received in Vulcanmold 's quotation ?
A.: There are many cases which we can notice when Injection Molding Parts requirements are too exagerated because of difficulties in exact defining of necessary product parameters. It is therefore extremally important to share with us all the information about the product, its use, functions etc. This will help us to look for a way to reduce costs given on quotation and in result your cost of Mould Design.
Mold Size/Mold Repairs/Other
Q.: Vulcanmold manufactures medium and larger size molds. I have a smaller product which I would like to have Plastic Mould Manufacturer for. Can you make it ?
A.: Using the facilities we have we can make Compression Mold of various sizes up to 15 tons in weight, also for small, precision parts. However its is our policy not to accept orders for small Machined Parts. Of course for special reasons and if a Compression Molding Plastics is an assembly and also has some small parts in it we are making all of the Compression Moulding.
Q.: Is Vulcanmold Engineering manufacturing only mass production molds for Injection Compression Molding and die casting processes?
A.: Usually we make only molds for mass production though it sporadically happens that we are also building prototypes.
Q.: What if I want to make changes to the Plastic Manufacture mold at a later date ?
A.: Changes can usually always be made. However, it is best that you try to anticipate any changes that may occur so that appropriate accommodations can be made for them in the mold ahead of time.
Q.: I do not have a drawing of my Injection Molding Parts only its general idea how it will look like. Can you help and build the Machining Parts ?
A.: We are able to help also with product design as a Plastic Molding Manufacturer .
Q.: Can you only design a mold for me as you are an Injection Molding Manufactuer?
A.: As Injection Molding Manufactuer In China it is not desirable for us to make only designs so we can take such order only as an exception.
Q.: We have a mold which was made by another Plastic Mould Manufacturers and it needs a serious repair. Could you do it for us? This way we could check your competence in the field before we decide to place an order for a new Metal Stamping Parts.
A.: The best solution to have a Machine Part repaired is to order it in the toolshop where it was manufactured. It happens very rarely, but we were also repairing Part Stamping made by others. Recently Vulcanmold invested in a new 250 ton die spotting press which makes mold repairs easier and much faster so we can undertake such task, too.
